This is a schematic from a similar set up. And they have the blue and other wires From the calibrator set up the same. And they have the yellow wire off the 16 pin going to the ox1b which is off the afr heater.

Af1 is the wire coming out of the afr calibrator.

How am I supposed to know my afr? I need to install a wideband o2 sensor and what?

Update: According to Tacoma world and my parts store my truck comes with a wide band sensor.
Assuming this is right then all I need to do is get the 16 pin yellow wire hooked up and what?

For tuning you have to have a external wideband setup. You cannot rely on the OEM wideband sensors, especially if you alter their output in closed loop. You don’t want to connect the yellow wire to the OEM ECU, that is the wideband signal if you want to display the AFRs on MAPCAL.

Ok I understand. Snaps one more thing to get but I want to do it right. Is there a afr sensor list that mapecu3 works with?
I’m thinking about getting the:
AEM 30-0300 X-Series Wideband UEGO AFR Sensor Controller Gauge

I ended up getting it. Can you tell me what type I’ll use in mapcal for that afr? Also do you have any wiring diagrams for adding this?

Most widebands work. Check out the wideband section of the forum for diagrams and lookup files.

The wideband I got works great and I am back again trying to perfect my tune.
My questions at this point are-
1. After making changes to my timing table my car scanner doesn't show that the timing has changed at all.
2. Is the point of the O2 adjustment to trick your ecu into thinking the AFR is still within the stock parameters?
3. Do I need to install an extra knock sensor and module to monitor knock if my car already has one stock?
Any help is much appreciated.

Also the other day I was driving and doing some adjustments and accidentally closed mapcal during writing some lines My truck freaked out and wouldn't start, luckily I installed that plug/harness to quickly revert back to stock wiring. It was a life saver and was able to make it back home and update the firmware on my mapecu3 and be right back in the game. I highly recommend adding that plug to anyone getting ready to install.

Good to hear the wideband is working OK.

That is correct, your scanner has no idea you are making changes to the ignition timing as it is happening right before the ignition coil and spark plug.

2. Is the point of the O2 adjustment to trick your ecu into thinking the AFR is still within the stock parameters?

That is correct. You tune for a more rich AFR under boost and you want the OEM ECU to think it is still 14.7:1. The AFR Adjust using our AFR Calibrator works best at this because the OEM sensor is a true wideband sensor so yo have fine adjustment. The narrow band sensors are very coarse and only respond reliably around 14.7:1.

3. Do I need to install an extra knock sensor and module to monitor knock if my car already has one stock?

Yes, you cannot access a digital signal from the OEM knock sensor. In theory you could connect a knock module to the OEM sensor but it can load the signal and upset the OEM ECU causing errors or false triggers.

Awesome thank you so much for the quick response.

Would I be able to redirect the signal from the stock knock sensor to my mapecu or do I have to disable the stock sensor and add a completely new sensor and module for the mapecu, and also would you know if simply unplugging the stock knock sensor is sufficient or do I need to unbolt the sensor or do some kind of wiring and add a resistor in line to prevent the stock ecu from freaking out and thinking there’s a malfunction.

We usually recommend a new sensor. If you disconnect the OEM sensor from the OEM ECU you will probably get a CEL. The knock sensor is not a resistor, it is a microphone, so we don't think a resistor will fool the OEM ECU.
